What is Ultra Jarro-Dophilus®?

Jarrow Formulas® Ultra Jarro-Dophilus® is a high potency probiotic supplement designed to support, restore, and maintain a balanced level of intestinal flora in healthy individuals.* A maximum survival rate of viable probiotic organisms passing through the stomach and intestinal tract is made possible via a unique delivery system in Ultra Jarro-Dophilus® that consists of a vegetarian acid resistant capsule and the integration of probiotic strains within a gel-forming matrix.* For further protection against stomach acid, DRcaps® (Delayed Release Capsules) are used instead of regular vegetarian capsules. Each capsule contains a minimum of 50 billion viable probiotic organisms when kept refrigerated and taken within “Best Used Before” date.

Strains

Lactobacillus acidophilus La-14

L. acidophilus is a common inhabitant of the GI tract and the most widely known probiotic species name. La-14 is a well-characterized human strain of L. acidophilus that supports immunity.* Its tolerance to acid, bile salts and digestive enzymes as well as its strong adherence to human intestinal cells make it an ideal probiotic organism.*

    Lactobacillus rhamnosus R0011

R0011 was found to stimulate the growth of cytokines in a study using human intestinal cells. Cytokines can modulate the environment of the intestinal lining, greatly influencing the immune response.*

    Lactobacillus helveticus R0052

helveticus species are found in a number of cheeses and some fermented milks. They survive the stomach and are well established for benefits in areas such as immunomodulatory activity.* L. helveticus R0052 is a very stable member of this family of probiotic bacteria. Lactobacillus casei Lc-11: L. casei is a common inhabitant of the mouth and intestines. It is used in many fermented food products, including cheese. Lc-11 adheres to intestinal cells and is resistant to bile salts and acidic conditions, allowing it to survive in the intestine. By producing compounds, such as lactic acid, hydrogen peroxide, and bacteriocins, Lc-11 can help promote healthy intestinal flora.*

      Lactobacillus paracasei Lpc-37

paracasei is a common inhabitant of the human intestinal tract. Lpc-37 is a well-characterized strain that maintains natural immune defenses and is considered safe and suitable for human use.* Lactobacillus plantarum Lp-115: L. plantarum is found in saliva, and is deemed safe and suitable for human use.

        Lactobacillus salivarius Ls-33

salivarius is a common inhabitant of the intestine. It contributes to overall good health and, like many probiotic organisms, exhibits a capacity to enhance immunity.*

          Bifidobacterium lactis Bl-04

The probiotic attributes of B. lactis are well established. Often B. lactis strains are beneficial in improving the tolerance of dairy products.* B. lactis Bl-04 is a well-characterized strain of human origin with documented human safety.

          Bifidobacterium breve Bb-03

Bifidobacteria are the most abundant species in breast-fed infants and support infant health.* However, these organisms are critical throughout life due to their production of healthful short-chain fatty acids. Certain Bifidobacteria strains, like Bb-03, work well as probiotics due to their tolerance to bile salts and acid, and their ability to adhere to intestinal cells.*

          Bifidobacterium longum BB536

Administration of BB536 to healthy volunteers improved the intestinal environment, defecation frequency and fecal characteristics particularly after antibiotic use in a number of studies in humans.* BB536 also promoted healthy responses to seasonal allergies in a number of studies conducted in Japan.*

A polysaccharide gel-forming matrix further protects the 50 Billion probiotic organisms in Ultra Jarro-Dophilus as it passes through the harsh environment of the stomach and the negative effects of stomach and/or duodenal fluids.* Upon reaching the intestines, the matrix swells allowing the gradual release of all ten strains of beneficial bacteria. Ultra Jarro-Dophilus® is a non-dairy formula.
