Jarrow Probiotics Highlights
Jarrow Formulas probiotics provide specially designed formulations to meet specific needs. These formulation blends are based on pre-clinical and clinical data published on probiotic microbacteria and their health benefits.
Why Jarrow Formulas Probiotics?
With expanding public interest in probiotics, there are hundreds of probiotic products and an overwhelming amount of information available to consumers. Recently, the International Scientific Association for Probiotics and Prebiotics (ISAPP) has published a consumer guide to look for the following key criteria for choosing credible probiotics: probiotic strain, proof, quality and quantity, and packaging/labeling (see www.ISAPP.net).
While there are a number of distinct advantages to the use of Jarrow Formulas, Inc. (JFI) probiotic products, first let's look at how they meet the ISAPP criteria and satisfy the needs of people who are interested in quality products.
Probiotic Strain: JFI probiotics provide superior blends of probiotic strains that have been validated to effectively support the growth of health-promoting bacteria, including but not limited to Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium species. Please see the complete list of friendly bacterial strains at the end of this section.
Proof: The strains of bacteria that are used in JFI probiotics have been previously tested in multiple pre-clinical and clinical studies, and their benefits in human health have been well-documented. Many of the studies have been published in accredited peer-reviewed journals. Copies of this reference material is available upon request.
Quality and Quantity: Since probiotics are live microorganisms and are subject to degradation, JFI pays extra attention to ensure their stability and viability. While these strains are purchased from reputable, high quality raw material suppliers, JFI maintains the quality and stability of the organisms by keeping them in a strict temperature-controlled environment throughout the manufacturing process. These strains are also constantly tested in Jarrow's quality control labs to verify purity and potency of the strains during their production and storage. All products are then delivered to stores and customers via temperature-monitored delivery methods to meet JFI's highest standards.
While this extensive and careful manufacturing and delivering process is second to none, JFI raises the bar even further to help assure viability of the probiotics once they enter the body. Since stomach acids can destroy probiotics, JFI often combines them with a gel forming matrix that helps protect them during transit through the stomach. For example, Jarro-Dophilus EPS® utilizes specially designed enteric-coating and blister-packaging, which helps prevent entrance of degradation factors including stomach acids, oxygen and moisture into the capsules. This allows Jarro-Dophilus EPS® to be room temperature stable (aka, shelf-stable) and not require refrigeration. Refrigerating Jarro-Dophilus EPS® is optional and will further extend the shelf-life by safeguarding the product from heat, especially during the hot summer months.
Packaging/Labeling: JFI's manufacturing, packaging, and labeling of products meet the recommendations and requirements of major organizations including the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), World Health Organization (WHO), and National Sanitation Foundation (NSF). Product labels clearly specify the following information; Strain, CFU, suggested serving size, health benefits, proper storage conditions, and corporate contact information.
